Central Hawke's Bay Health Centre is located on Cook Street in Waipukurau, providing the community of Central Hawke's Bay with inpatient, outpatient and community services. Located in the Health Centre are the private practices of four General Practitioners and a physiotherapist. |

Our Mission To link closely with General Practitioners (GPs) and other providers to ensure that provision of a comprehensive range of integrated services to the Central Hawke's Bay community, whilst inspiring people to recovery, independence and maintenance of good health.
Our Service With everything under one roof, it is convenient for people in Central Hawke's Bay to access medical care, follow-up tests and treatment. Hawke's Bay District Health Board is contracted to provide the following services for Central Hawke's Bay people. Sub-acute inpatient care Nine inpatient rooms with ensuite facilities are available for Central Hawke's Bay people who need close monitoring and medical care. Typical patients include those recovering from medical conditions or surgery, who may have transferred from Hawke's Bay Hospital to be closer to home, or people with respiratory problems such as pneumonia.
Whanau/family room This private room with ensuite is available for families/whanau to sleep over, when a family member is seriously ill. The Central Hawke's Bay Lions Club raised funds to provide a sofa-bed and furnishings for this room.
Laboratory The laboratory is open Monday to Friday for specimen collection, with home visits by prior arrangement on Monday, Tuesday and Friday mornings. Specimens are sent to the main technical laboratory located at Hawke's Bay Hospital Soldiers' Memorial for testing. All HBDHB laboratory sites are accredited with International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ). For further information refer to Laboratory Service
Radiology (X-ray) This service is available at the health centre. Appointments are required and appreciated phone (06) 858-9090
Outpatient Clinics A range of specialist clinics are provided by visiting specialists. These include; Cardiology Dermatology Ear, Nose and Throat General surgery General Medicine Gerontology Medical Neurology Orthopedics Pediatric Psychiatry Rheumatology
Out Patient Department Nurses are available to provide holter monitor, ECG and venesection services locally
Other Outpatient Services available to the community are; Audiology Childrens Hearing and Vision testing Retinal Screening Newborn Hearing screening and Arthritis Asthma Podiatry Nutrition Diabetes Respiratory Orthotics Clinics
Resuscitation room From the ambulance bay, patients requiring assessment, stabilisation or immediate treatment are taken to the resuscitation room prior to transfer to Hawke's Bay Hospital, or admission to the Central Hawke's Bay Health Centre.
District nursing This is a seven day free service available to anyone who has been referred by their doctor, hospital or other health professional. Services are specialised and include: Care of the dying (palliative care) Wound management Oxygen supplies and education Support for family/whanau in the care of their dependent relatives Information and guidance for ostomy and renal patients IV therapy Medication supervision and administration

Public health Services provided include: Health promotion and health education advice Child health (at early childhood centers, kohanga reo and schools) Playground safety and school policy advice Immunisation programme Contact tracing for communicable diseases
Occupational therapy Patients are assessed and provided with suitable equipment to help them achieve and maintain their maximum level of independence.
School dental services Dental care is provided in dental clinics located at large primary schools and from mobile dental units. Dental health promotion and dental health services are provided free to pre-school and primary school children. This service is administrated from Napier Health Centre. Social work A physical health social worker is available to assist patients and their families with any issues whilst in hospital or in their home.
Cardiac rehabilitation nurse A qualified cardiac rehabilitation nurse is available to assist patients and families.
Physiotherapy Purpose-designed rooms are available for a physiotherapist to provide a range of services from the health centre.
Mental health & addiction services Mental health workers provide assessment, advocacy, occupational therapy, nursing and counseling to adults. An addiction worker provides assessment, education and counseling for people with a variety of addictions. Staff also provide a crisis response service for Central Hawke's Bay. All services are free, and available by appointment through the health centre or referral from your GP.
